This page explains what information Chat Friend collects, why we collect it, and how long we keep it. It's written in plain language on purpose.

Information you give us

When you enter a chat, you provide a nickname, a gender (Male / Female / Other), and a country. None of these are verified. You never provide an email address, phone number, or password — Chat Friend has no accounts.

Information we store

  • Messages you send. Public messages are stored so they can be shown to other users in the room. Private messages are stored so they persist across a page refresh during your session.
  • A random session ID. When you enter the chat we generate a random ID and store it in your browser's session storage. It disappears when you close the tab.
  • Presence. While you have the chat open we store your nickname, gender, country and current room so other users can see who's online. This is removed when you leave.

Information we do NOT collect

  • Your real name, email, or phone number.
  • Your contact list or social media profiles.
  • A persistent user profile across visits.

Cookies and local storage

Chat Friend uses your browser's session storage to remember your nickname and session ID for the duration of your visit. We don't set tracking cookies of our own. Our advertising partners may set cookies to serve and measure ads; see the section on advertising below.

Advertising

Chat Friend is supported by advertising, including Google AdSense. Third-party ad partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads relevant to your interests. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings or aboutads.info.

How long we keep messages

Public and private messages may be kept for up to 30 days for moderation and abuse-prevention purposes, after which they are deleted. Presence records are removed as soon as your session ends or after a short inactivity timeout.

Sharing with third parties

We don't sell your data. We share the minimum necessary information with our infrastructure providers (hosting, database) to run the service, and with law enforcement only when legally compelled.

Children

Chat Friend is for people 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
